Character design analysis #3

Design Analysis

The design of this piece really grabbed me immediately. I suppose its the use of repeating patterns that cover the whole figure that gives it a very dramatic vibe. When we look at the concept of big open shapes next to smaller shapes at first this can seem not to apply, there are so many small shapes all over but when we look again we can see the sides of the shapes going down the figure are very large clear clean shapes that hold the rest of the shapes in place.

We see repeating shapes such as circles all throughout the pieces with the bet and the bottom of the dress she is wearing. They all flow upwards pointing us back up to her. Along her arms we also see circles in the form of flower petals and there is a counterbalance with gold wrappings around both arms but her right arm has 3 instead of 2. Obviously the biggest part of this design is the giant circle shape that is broken sitting in the middle of her crotch area. It sits like an old artifact and the bold red and green shapes of the dress provide a good contrast in detail since they are so brood and shapely.

Elsewhere we see triangle shapes that contrast against the circle shapes through her hair along the sides of her coat. Color wise we see a strong use of orange-yellow gold colors framed next to dark green and red colors that run throughout the image in desaturated forms, the gold really stands out in this design.
