Character design analysis: Celestial Witch

Contrast in Design

If contrast is the name of the game then the strongest form of contrast I see in this figure is between the circular shape on the top around the head (which is also circular) and the longer more square shapes of the lower half. We can also see other forms of contrast with the blue of the dress  coming down being more of one solid long shape as opposed to the smaller shapes of the ornamentation of the dress that hangs down from around the next and the small details of the braids that run across it. It feels very tribal in its design and feels archaic like we can never really know who is behind this mask if anyone is even there.

The name of this piece is "celestial witch" which you can definitely see the ideas conveyed here, for example in the dress hanging down the ornaments hanging in the blue space are almost star like. Overall the design is very symmetrical and as we go further up we run into interesting details in the face where we again see the contrast of values and shapes being used to direct our eye to the head hidden within the head. The birds you could say are a feature of the rule of 3 and they act as a good counterbalance to the symmetrical elements throughout the piece.
