Viktor Kalvachev analysis

Following along with the schoolism class of drawing deconstructed I decided to take a few pieces of his and break them down to better understand and analyze the way he uses crosshatching to demonstrate form.

Below we can see a few breakdowns of how he flows the lines of the character across the form. He describes in his lecture a number of different exercises to use to fill up pages of crosshatching techniques with to get better at showing a change in the planes of a form with just a slight tilt of the pencil.

In the above sample we can see subtle this change in direction is needed to create dept especially when we look at the crosshatching on the ribs. What we clearly see is a break, a white space between the abs and the rib cage and see a dark turn of form on the ribs as it turns and goes back and wraps around her.
The crosshatching for the upper and lower abs both have the same strong break from crosshatching with a white space before resuming crosshatching technique that is going on.

We can see similar examples in the wolf in the back and one thing to not is how the glasses are almost like a negative space shape that sits on the face of the wolf man. The crosshatching on the arm is similar with a white break for the vein on the arm that is crosshatched over to knock it back just a little bit.

I also took the time below to break down the forms underlying the drawing and the various landmarks of the head to better understand the construction of the body.
