Aeon Flux Pilot Analysis part 4

As Aeon makes her way up the ladder and we see her approach the window with the blaring light that she has been trying to get to this whole time we are given one of the strangest yet climatic endings Ive seen in a show. Its typical of Aeon Flux to have episodes where she dies at the end, but what makes this ending special is although her death almost feels like our expectations are being shattered and at the sametime anticlimactic. 

But Peter Chang the director did such a good job with this that he was able to take this death of Aeon and spin it into a satisfyingly odd conclusion. We see Aeon make her way towards the window and what we see in the window is the same portrait she has been carrying with her on the wall behind a woman who walks past the man in the photo who is laying on his bed asleep or dead. This establishes that we are in the penthouse of this man looking in. 

Strange lounge music plays as Terry Goodkind walks to the right of the screen and tears off his band aid from his finger and squeezes out the insect from his finger into a glass. I thought the band aid seems like a callback to when Terry Goodkind first appears and we see a band aid floating in the blood in front of him earlier in the episode. He pushes the creature out and digs around in his scab to pull out some green mush to put on his cracker. I assume that this green mush he pulls out is the beginning infection of what the creature does. Maybe its a delicacy when you're immune to it by taking a serum? I have no idea.

As we see this we also see a strong strobe like effect coming from the tv and woman sitting in a odd massage chair. The mix of visuals and sound effects with the lounge music gives it a very weird atmosphere. We zoom in slightly to the tv and see a news broadcast that has a skull as its main icon, we see a map which gives us a clearer idea of where this  is in the world and we see the carnage left by Aeon from her infiltration. 

Families gather before the bodies of people she has murdered and cry, while the news report goes on we see the news show again another emphasis on the virus that is ravaging their world. We see them pointing it out on the faces and bodies of the dead and a info animatic shows us how people become infected from the sting of the creature. The animation of the cellular reactions in the body is also a call back to earlier in the episode when we see moments of cellular reaction when one of the guards is dying from the virus.

We see Terry Goodchild walk towards the woman and we get a great cropping of the two as she motions at the cut on his finger and points at the tv, shes worried about him dying. Terry Goodkind reassures her and we see a light hit her face from someone opening a door, we zoom in further to the point where we see Goodkind inject her with the serum and the smile that crosses her face afterwards takes up the whole screen.

We then cut back to Aeon who after stepping on her foot with the screw we see a bright white all around her communicating pain and then she falls to her death. Notice again we dont see the shot of her slamming into the ground, instead we get a shot of her falling from far away which communicates how far she is falling and then we see her smashed into the ground. So similar to how frazetta always drew what was going to happen and right after something happened. 

We then cut to what looks like her command center, and its important to note that these guys are dressed similarly to the guy in black who fought her for the suitcase. We see him hit a button on his keypad without a second thought, not caring at all and she is destroyed from the self detonating bomb on her back. Her headquarters that have acouple of sex toys and sex toy like shaped things in her room ( The cactus looks very phallic) are all destroyed and burned. 

Next we get a quick animation of her seeming to cross over into the afterlife, this is a abstract representation of the idea as she transforms into another costume that looks heavenly since its all white. We then cut to abunch of people getting vaccinated for the bug with the serum syringe stabbed into the bug. Note that this is the same color..etc. of the syringe that Terry Goodkind is using. 

We get a climactic ending for Terry Goodkind when we see his picture being taken as a monument of the man Aeon was trying to murder is destroyed, while Terry stands with his family in front of what looks like a building being built. So did Terry kill this guy and take over his position using the serum as a way of gaining control?

Next we get a glimpse of what Aeon's heaven would look like as we see her landing on a chair and pulling a leaver when a blue man rises from the water and licks her feet. Its almost like a fever dream and the question whether this is real or not is then reinforced by the guy picking up the feet magazine with her on it in this next scene. Notice that she is in her real room. He buys it and walks out the store and we get one last tidbit of information that Terry Goodkind is the ruler of this land, and we know that by the money that he pays has his face on it! The whole show then wraps up with her still in her weird heaven.
