Character analysis #21

These kinds of character designs are ultimately what I want at least some of my style to look like. I like working in a variety of styles but what I really enjoy about this piece is that its got a little bit of everything I like. It has a mythical feel to it while also providing a strange surreal moody atmosphere.

Some of the things that stand out at first are the use of the eyes, we have the eyes decorate the entire upper body as well as one side of the lower body and shines. These all contrast in color against his actual eyes and give off the vibe that the armor he wears is comprised of the souls he stolen. I also like the added story of the figures clamoring around his legs.

Another repeating element is the horns. On his head we see two pairs of horns, one set encapsulating the other, while 3 of the heads on his chest are connected to one another through their own horns and one could say that the long shapes coming from the mouths of the two shoulder figures is also horn like, then of course we have the many figures around him which also have horns.  and the moustache on the various faces also have the same gestural shape.

On his left side we see a contrast between the big red shape of the drape hanging from his side and this contrasts and holds the smaller ornamentation of the belt loop that hangs down on his side. On his chest we see progressively smaller shapes that overlap as we get closer to the abdomen.

Finally a few things I notice about color, its all desaturated red and blue which contrast against one another and a desaturated yellow for the horns on his head. He feels very much like a "rocky" figure so he fits in perfectly with his environment.
