Pau Pujadas analysis
Character Design notes:
This piece from Pau Pujadas completely blew me away with how unique of a concept this is but at the same time feels very familiar. I feel like this is an inspiration from something like giger or something that exists in that realm. I dig the elements of story being expressed in this piece, it seems like here we have some sort of crusader like figure who uses the undead as a way to help hold his weapon when firing long distance. I imagine this being a RTS class in a giger inspired Real time strategy game or something similar.
When it comes to layer caking or organizing values this is a interesting one to decipher. We see long cylinder shapes connecting the two body forms together and see a contrasting tubular shapes used on the body of the soldier and behind the figure carrying the weapon on its back. We also seem to have the undead figure carrying a sheath for the giant blade sticking out of his helmet. The two figures contrast against one another with the figure in the back much more clothed and armored in what looks like a miz between space suit and roman armor while the figure in the front is only partially covered the rest showing an exposed decomposed body.
We also see as we zoom into the piece that the shape language on the figure is in a lot of areas very circular. For example we see a circular shape over the groin area of the soldier and see this repeated in the eye holes in the mask, the knee caps, the barrel of the gun and random rivets and details on the gun and suit.
