Teru analysis

Continuing my breakdowns of character designs I've taken these first two images of Teru and broken them down into their converging lines as well as copied their silhouettes in an attempt to understand his design process and style better. This week I'll be breaking down each individual character from his Red Tail series in both forms and taking notes on them.

In the red tailed girl on the right the thing I noticed is that he uses straights in a way that almost start to give the character a flat graphic quality. The straight (its slightly curved) from her shoulder blade to her neck is drastic and creates the sense that she is leaning back. Notice that the top of the shoulder blade also lines up with the tip of one of her hairs on the other side of her body.

In fact you could compare both sides of the silhouette and we can see how the big triangular bump of her shoulder blade on one side is being compared to the 3 smaller triangular bumps of her hair as it comes down her side as well as the slight curve of her forearm. Other interesting convergences  lie in the way her deltoid turns into a straight that becomes her neck bracelet. There is much more variety and degree of curves in a straight that is being expressed here. She feels very triangular in her design which makes sense sense we could say she is themed triangular with her horns on her head and this is mimicked throughout the design.

Now the other guy we could also break down his design into a more circular oval type design, and just like in the girl this is hinted at with the objects coming out of his head. It may be hard to see here, but he has some sort of mechanical device poking out of his head that is circular in design. This circular feeling is carried through in the broadness of his shoulders and is even conveyed in the roundness of what would otherwise be very triangular forms such as the overlapping clothing that sticks out from his silhouette. Even the "Pointness" of his shoes are slightly rounded for effect.
